Review:
I was very intrigued from Flawed's description and I thought I was hooked from the first chapter, but I was proved wrong and a bit disappointed. The book in and of itself became it's title.
The plot was very fast paced as this book decided to take on all of the tropes and cliches of Young Adult dystopian books. There's a "chosen one," even though there's no clear reason on why she's special enough to take down a governing body. The romance displayed was just as flat as the characters and plot, and there's also a definite love triangle forming. Told in first person, present tense, I believe the intent was to infuse suspense, but it instead felt like I was reading a kid's over-emotional diary.
The overall issue of the dystopia seemed flimsy and unbelievable, not in the "how could they?" way, but in the "this doesn't make any sense" way. A person is found flawed over the most mundane and simple choice, and the whole community is overcome with vile hatred and don't even think to question it for themselves? There is no depth in the world-building or plot, and as I was reading more and more I came to realize that this book felt more elementary than young adult/ teen.
Perhaps the simplicity of this book is the reason it kept me in a slump and took me a while to get through. My interest completely left and I have no intention on continuing this series. The writing felt amateurish and the plot was full of holes and uninteresting characters with no dimension.
