Catching Fire (The Hunger Games #2) by Suzanne Collins (audiobook)

Catching Fire (Hunger Games, #2)Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Synopsis:
"Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge." -goodreads.com

My Review:
Loved it! This audiobook picked up my interest greatly after the 30% mark and held it even after the book was done!

This book picks up after Katniss and Peeta arrive home as victors of the 74th Hunger Games, and goes through the changes in politics and punishment as everybody gears up for the 75th Hunger Games, also known as the Quarter Quell. As the Mockingjay symbolizes unity, rebellion and love, Hope is again a reoccurring theme. Katniss has trust issues, as usual, but she's also gained a certain brusqueness that makes any and everything set her temper off. She wants to keep Peeta alive, but how can she accomplish this when she, herself, has people to live for? This book takes very unexpected turns as the girl who was on fire is determined to try her best to keep as many of her loved ones alive as possible.

While I was sitting there awestruck and full of emotion, I remembered that I still have Mockingjay (book #3) checked out and I ought to get to that ASAP, so off I go.

Quotes I've bookmarked from the audiobook

"I wish that Peeta were here to hold me, until I remember that I'm not supposed to wish that anymore. I have chosen Gale and the rebellion, and a future with Peeta is the Capitol's design, not mine." (Part 4 2:40)

"Instead of satisfying me, the kisses have the opposite effect of making my need greater. I thought I was something of an expert on hunger, but this is an entirely new kind." (Part 10 6:03)

"The bird, the pin, the song, the berries, the watch, the cracker, the dress that burst into flames. I am the Mockingjay, the one that survived despite the Capitol's plans; the symbol of the rebellion." (Part 10 1:06:05)
